I try to read everyday, but finding time can be tough. As a result I’ll read whenever, and wherever, I can grab a few minutes.
At the moment, my reading places include:
- In bed
- Curled up on the sofa in front of the log fire
- On the train (and tube) in London
- On the station platform (waiting for delayed train)
- In the car, sat at the level-crossing (the barriers always close for at least five minutes!)
- In the bath (difficult with a Kindle!)
- Waiting at supermarket checkout
What about you?
Where and when do you find your time to read?
I mainly read in bed and on the train back home. However, if the reading is not leisure reading but more “study reading”, I prefer the library to focus: so many people studying and reading in the same room really helps!

Great point about ‘study reading’, I guess a more formal setting, surrounded by other people studying, makes it that bit easier. Thanks for dropping by 🙂

I don’t like reading in fits and starts – I can’t get into a book that way, and get very frustrated once I’m half-way through to try keeping the feeling of immersion in the story in a few minutes at a time. So I wait till I get chance for half a day, a full day, a day and a night… And read the whole thing at once.
Lord of the Rings in three days and nights (the whole trilogy). Not much sleep. War & Peace in three days (ditto). Exhausting and somewhat disorientating, but fantastically satisfying.

Wow – Lord of the Rings in three days. I can imagine how immersing yourself in a story like that can be really satisfying. I don’ t think I’ve ever read a book cover to cover in one sitting – but I think now I’ll try it.

I was 15 and I had nightmares about the Balrog for a while, so a powerful experience, but you certainly get lost in the writer’s world that way…

Oh, in a meeting – brave 🙂 When you’re sitting in a meeting reading, are you reading from a paper book or an eReader?

I am too scared to take my kindle into the bath!! I’m too clumsy, which is a shame. I tend to read on the tube or the train now – also on the platform – london overground is delayed way too often!

I know what you mean, I always fear that I’ll drop it in the water! At least train delays are useful for something! Thanks for dropping by.

I read in bed and I also read while I’m eating my lunch at work. The two times a day a can fit it in, though not always at work.

I’d forgotten about lunchtime at work, sometimes I manage to sneak a few pages in then too. Thanks for dropping by.

In the morning before the day starts–30 min or an hour can help ground me for the day–in bed at night, on the train, between clients, waiting for the water to boil….

Early morning reading, I like that idea 🙂

I used to read in the bath too! That was my favourite reading spot as a kid, actually. But then our flat was re-furnished and re-designed and we had to get rid of it and fit in a shower instead. Grrr! So now I usually read in bed or in my beanbag chair.

A beanbag chair sounds great – maybe I should get one of them.

It’s funny isn’t it, how reading can feel like a guilty pleasure. I totally forgot about reading on vacations – I always take a heap of books with me too!

In bed, on the couch, at my desk during my lunch break, in the car (audiobooks), in waiting rooms…with a 1 year old in the house, I sneak most of my reading time in during naps these days!

Gosh, that must be a challenge! I’ve not really tried audiobooks, I’ll have to give one a go.

hi crime thriller girl
I read everywhere and anywhere I can. I must be one of the few people who loves getting stuck in traffic jams or in a queue as I just get my book out and start where I left off. – I travel a lot on public transport and often miss my stop if I get lost in my reading!

Hi there. Thanks for dropping by. I know the feeling of missing your stop because of a book – I’ve done that a few times on the tube myself!
